This project is our dream house and we have put much into the planing and design. Being our first straw bale project we did consult with many people on the phone as well as visit a builder in the Kansas City Area. He has completed over 12 homes and has agreed to come here in October 2004 to give classes and show others how to build straw bale houses. If you are interesed please contact Jim or Mary at 1-877-803-0219 and leave a message with your phone numbers and best time to call you.

Or send an email to StrawClass@LSIMO.com

Pictures of our New Straw Bale Home in Production

SubFloor and Roof

We started our Sub-floor by spanning our basement with 16" I-beams that were 45 foot long. This allowed us to build a concrete deck on the south side of the house 16' wide by 60' long. We added an extra 4' to each beam.

This is the floor joist's spaned across from one steel beam to allow for clear spans below.

Here you can see we actually started using 1x's to deck the sub-floor.

Here are some pictures of the roof system from the bottom. The peak of the roof from the sub-floor is 21 feet and the side walls are 14 feet from the sub-floor.

Here is the south side of the house with just the windows in.

Here is the view from the roof of the house. Can you see any houses? No! No way! And no one can see my house or even the roof, yeah!!!!
